The Law of Attraction: Week 18 and the Transformation of Completing the Master Key System
A source-based article for careful, progressive study of the Master Key System.
The Law of Attraction is one of the central principles explored in The Master Key System. It is not presented simply as wishing for something and waiting for it to appear. Instead, it is connected to thought, attention, growth, giving and the relationship between the individual and the Universal Mind.
Week 18 is an important stage in the 24-week journey because it brings many of these ideas together.
What is the Law of Attraction?
The Master Key System describes the Law of Attraction as the principle through which things are brought together. It operates throughout nature and is presented as the means by which growth takes place.
The text explains that, in order to grow, we must obtain what is necessary for our development. Growth depends upon reciprocal action: we receive as we give.
On the mental level, like attracts like. Thoughts of abundance respond to similar thoughts, while the ability to produce is described as the real source of wealth.
The teaching is therefore not simply about wanting more. It asks the student to develop the inner qualities, thoughts and attention that support the life they wish to express.
The book states:
“Thought is the energy by which the Law of Attraction is brought into operation, which eventually manifests in abundance.”
Why Week 18 matters
By Week 18, the student has already been studying consciousness, thought, attention, visualisation and concentration.
Part Eighteen explains that thought is creative, but that the creative power originates in the Universal. The individual is described as the channel through which this energy is expressed.
This gives the student a wider understanding of personal power. The individual is not presented as separate from the Universal Mind, but as connected with it.
Week 18 teaches that thought is creative, the Universal Mind is the source of energy and substance, growth depends upon giving and receiving, and attention is developed through practice.
The student is encouraged to concentrate upon their power to create, seek insight and perception, and discover the relationship between thought and results.
The seed of thought
One of the important ideas in Week 18 is the comparison between a physical seed and a mental or spiritual seed.
In the physical world, no life assumes form until a seed has been sown. The fruit depends upon the nature of the seed.
The lesson applies the same principle to thought. The results we obtain depend upon our perception of the law operating in the domain of causation.
This encourages the student to examine what they are repeatedly planting in their own mind.
What thoughts are being given attention? What ideas are being strengthened through repetition? What kind of result would those thoughts naturally produce?
The Master Key System places responsibility upon the quality and direction of thought, rather than upon hope alone.
The importance of attention
Week 18 also explains that power depends upon consciousness of power. Unless we are conscious of it, we cannot use it.
The use of this power depends upon attention. The degree of attention determines our capacity for acquiring knowledge, which the lesson describes as another name for power.
Attention is not presented as something that appears automatically. It must be cultivated through practice.
The lesson explains that interest creates attention, and attention creates greater interest, action and reaction. This process can continue until the student develops a stronger ability to concentrate.
For this reason, the Law of Attraction is connected with discipline. The student must learn to direct the mind deliberately and sustain attention upon a definite purpose.
The relationship between inner and outer conditions
Part Twenty-Four returns to the relationship between the inner world and the conditions experienced in the world around us.
The lesson teaches that the conditions with which we meet in the world without are connected with the conditions obtaining in the world within. It therefore encourages the student to look within for the mental causes connected with outward circumstances.
The text explains that, by holding the perfect ideal in mind, a person can bring about ideal conditions in their environment.
This is not presented as a quick technique. The student’s work consists of developing the understanding required to think the truth consistently.
The final lesson states that truth manifests in character and conduct. Transformation is not only about what a person believes privately. It is also shown in the way they live, act and influence the world around them.
How completing all 24 weeks may transform the student
The Master Key System was originally taught as a correspondence course of 24 lessons, with one lesson studied each week.
The book instructs the student not to read the material like a novel, but to study one part at a time, reread it and conscientiously absorb its meaning before moving forward.
This approach is important because the transformation described by the course comes through continued study and practice.
By completing the full 24 weeks, the student has the opportunity to develop a deeper understanding of their thoughts, the power of attention, the use of mental images, the relationship between inner and outer conditions and the importance of expressing truth through character and conduct.
The course describes this knowledge as offering freedom from lack, limitation, sorrow, worry and care. It also describes a new power to achieve worthy personal purposes and a greater ability to appreciate life’s beauty and wonder.
These statements belong to the teaching of The Master Key System. They should be understood as the result of study, practice and developing consciousness, not as a promise of instant results.
From Week 18 to the Master Key
Week 18 presents the Law of Attraction as part of a larger system.
It is connected with consciousness, creative thought, concentration, attention, visualisation, Universal Mind, giving and receiving, understanding the inner world and expressing truth through action.
The final lesson states that when the truth is realised, understood and appreciated, the student will have come into possession of the Master Key.
It describes thinking as clear, decisive, calm, deliberate and sustained thought with a definite end in view.
Completing the 24 weeks may therefore transform the student’s relationship with their own mind. They may become more conscious of their thoughts, more deliberate with their attention and more aware of the connection between their inner conditions and their outward life.
The course does not suggest that someone else can do this thinking for them. The final lesson explains that knowledge and wisdom cannot simply be inherited, purchased or completed by another person.
The student must undertake their own thinking and self-culture.
Your 24-week journey
Week 18 is a significant point in the Master Key journey because it asks the student to understand the Law of Attraction through the disciplined use of thought and attention.
The lesson encourages the student to examine the mental seeds they are planting and to understand that growth depends upon reciprocal action.
The remaining lessons continue developing this understanding until Part Twenty-Four presents the complete teaching of the course.
By completing all 24 weeks, the student has given themselves the time and structure to study, practise, reflect and develop their own understanding of the principles.
The transformation described by The Master Key System begins within the mind, but it is ultimately expressed through character, conduct and the way the student lives.
