Four weeks of study, practice and personal coaching

The Foundation Stage is the first four weeks of my Master Key System coaching service.

Each week is built around one part of the original course. You study the lesson, work through the questions and answers, practise the exercise and receive personal support from me throughout the week.

The purpose is not simply to read a book. It is to develop your understanding through repeated study, physical stillness, concentration and practical application.

Each day of the four-week Foundation Stage includes approximately 45 minutes to read the chapter and 30 minutes for the meditation exercise. The meditation practice requires approximately:

30 minutes × 28 days = 840 minutes = around 14 hours of meditation exercise.

Those 14 hours are completed gradually, through one daily meditation exercise at a time, alongside the chapter reading.

Week 1 — One Consciousness – One Power

The first week introduces the relationship between the inner world and the outer world.

The lesson explains that the world within is a world of thought, feeling and power. It teaches that the world without is a reflection of the world within and that thought is connected with the conditions and experiences we meet in life.

Your first exercise is to sit comfortably and upright, remaining perfectly still for 15 to 30 minutes. You continue practising until you gain greater control of the physical body.

The questions and answers you will study

What is the world without in its relation to the world within?

The world without is a reflection of the world within.

Upon what does all possession depend?

All possession is based on consciousness.

How is the individual related to the objective world?

The individual is related to the objective world by the objective mind. The brain is the organ of this mind.

How is the individual related to the Universal Mind?

The individual is related to the Universal Mind by the subconscious mind. The solar plexus is described as the organ of this mind.

What is the Universal Mind?

The Universal Mind is described as the life principle of every atom in existence.

How can the individual act on the Universal?

The ability of the individual to think is the ability to act upon the Universal and bring it into manifestation.

What is the result of this action and interaction?

The result is cause and effect. Every thought is a cause and every condition is an effect.

How are harmonious and desirable conditions secured?

Harmonious and desirable conditions are obtained by right thinking.

What is the cause of discord, inharmony, lack and limitation?

They are presented as the result of wrong thinking.

What is the source of all power?

The source of all power is described as the world within, the Universal Fountain of Supply and the Infinite Energy of which each individual is an outlet.

What you begin developing in Week 1

By the end of this week, you begin developing:

Awareness of your inner world. Greater understanding of the relationship between inner and outer conditions. The ability to practise physical stillness. Awareness of thought as a cause. * A clearer understanding of the importance of right thinking.

My support during Week 1

I back you as you begin the first exercise. I motivate you when sitting still feels difficult. I inspire you to remain patient with the process and empower you to recognise that your own practice is the starting point of your development.

You are not expected to understand everything immediately. You are encouraged to study, practise and discover the meaning through your own experience.

Week 2 — One Method of Finding the Truth

The second week examines the two modes of mental activity: the conscious and subconscious mind.

The conscious mind is described as having the power of discrimination, reasoning, choice and will. The subconscious mind is described as the storehouse of memory, the seat of habit and the source of important mental and physical processes.

The conscious mind is encouraged to act as the “watchman at the gate”, carefully guarding the suggestions and impressions that are accepted.

The questions and answers you will study

What are the two modes of mental activity?

Conscious and subconscious.

Upon what do ease and perfection depend?

They depend upon the degree in which we cease to depend upon the conscious mind.

What is the value of the subconscious?

It guides us, warns us, controls vital processes and is the seat of memory.

What are some of the functions of the conscious mind?

It has the faculty of discrimination, the power of reasoning and the power of will. It may also impress the subconscious mind.

How has the distinction between the conscious and subconscious been expressed?

The conscious mind is reasoning will. The subconscious mind is instinctive desire resulting from past reasoning will.

What method is necessary in order to impress the subconscious?

We must mentally state what is wanted.

What will be the result?

If the desire is in harmony with the forward movement of the great Whole, forces will be set in motion which lead towards the desired result.

What is the result of the operation of this law?

Our environment reflects conditions corresponding to the predominant mental attitude we entertain.

What name has been given to this law?

The Law of Attraction.

How is the Law of Attraction stated?

Thought is a creative energy which automatically correlates with its object and brings it into manifestation.

What you begin developing in Week 2

By the end of this week, you begin developing:

A clearer understanding of conscious and subconscious activity. Greater awareness of the thoughts you accept. More careful use of discrimination and choice. Greater understanding of habit and repeated thought. * The ability to mentally state what you want with greater clarity.

My support during Week 2

I help you examine your thoughts without becoming overwhelmed by them. I back you as you recognise mental habits, motivate you to guard the impressions entering your mind, inspire you to become more conscious of your potential and empower you to take greater responsibility for your thinking.

Week 3 — Thoughts Become Things

The third week develops the relationship between thought, energy and the body.

The lesson explains the relationship between the conscious mind and the cerebro-spinal system, and between the subconscious mind and the sympathetic system. It identifies the solar plexus as the central point of distribution for energy generated by the body.

Students are taught that resistant, critical, discordant thoughts—and especially fear—can interrupt this energy. The exercise is to concentrate mentally upon the condition desired.

The questions and answers you will study

What system of nerves is the organ of the conscious mind?

The cerebro-spinal system.

What system of nerves is the organ of the subconscious mind?

The sympathetic system.

What is the central point of distribution for energy generated by the body?

The solar plexus.

How may this distribution be interrupted?

By resistant, critical and discordant thoughts, especially fear.

What is the result of such interruption?

The lesson connects it with the various ills with which humanity is afflicted.

How may this energy be controlled and directed?

By conscious thought.

How may fear be completely eliminated?

Through understanding and recognising the true source of all power.

What determines the experiences with which we meet in life?

Our predominant mental attitude.

How may we awaken the solar plexus?

By mentally concentrating upon the condition we desire to see manifested in our lives.

What is the creative principle of the Universe?

The Universal Mind.

What you begin developing in Week 3

By the end of this week, you begin developing:

Greater awareness of the influence of mental attitude. A deeper understanding of the relationship between thought and energy. The ability to recognise fear as a disruptive thought. Greater skill in directing thought consciously. * The practice of concentrating upon a desired condition.

My support during Week 3

I back you when fear or doubt appears. I motivate you to return to the exercise instead of allowing distraction to take over. I inspire you to recognise that understanding grows through persistence, and I empower you to direct your attention consciously rather than allowing circumstances to control your thinking.

Week 4 — The True “Self”

The fourth week asks you to examine what the lesson calls the true nature of the “I”.

The physical body is presented as an instrument used by the “I”, while the mind is another instrument used to think, reason and plan. The lesson teaches that the “I” controls and directs both the body and the mind.

It also explains that thought is spiritual energy, that the secret of power is service and that silence is physical stillness—the first step to self-control and self-mastery.

The questions and answers you will study

What is thought?

Thought is spiritual energy.

How is thought carried?

By the Law of Vibration.

How is thought given vitality?

By the Law of Love.

How does thought take form?

By the Law of Growth.

What is the secret of thought’s creative power?

It is a spiritual activity.

How may we develop faith, courage and enthusiasm which result in accomplishment?

By recognising our spiritual nature.

What is the secret of power?

Service.

Why is service the secret of power?

Because we get what we give.

What is the Silence?

A physical stillness.

What is the value of the Silence?

It is the first step to self-control and self-mastery.

What you begin developing in Week 4

By the end of this week, you begin developing:

A clearer understanding of the “I” as distinct from the body and mind. Greater awareness of thought as spiritual energy. A deeper understanding of service and contribution. Greater faith, courage and enthusiasm through recognition of your nature. * The first foundations of self-control and self-mastery.
